Effects of GA and GA + Fenoprop Application of Offsetting of Physiological Changes Induced by Paclobutrazol in Apple Trees

Abstract
Treatments of paclobutrazol at concentrations of 1.5, 3.0 and 6.0g active ingredient per tree in 1984 and their 75% in 1985 caused undesirable severe suppression of shoot and leaf growth in 5-year-old `Fuji¢¥/M26 apple. Injection of 10 §¢ of 50 ppm GA treated at full bloom to the paclobutrazol-treated branch temporarily counteracted suppression of leaf and shoot growth, but foliar sprays of 25ppm GA or 25 ppm GA+10 ppm fenoprop at 7 weeks after full bloom had little influence on offsetting of paclobutrazol effects. All concentrations of paclobutrazol reduced leaf stomatal resistance and their effects were reversed by injection treatment of 50 ppm GA. Treatment of 1.5 g paclobutrazol changed isoenzyme banding pattern of peroxidase in leaf, and its effect was reversed by GA application.
